What is the product pricing calculator?

Pricing backwards from a target margin is the correct way to price a product, and it is the step most sellers get wrong by applying a markup instead. A 50% markup is not a 50% margin. Enter your landed unit cost and the net margin you need, and this tool returns the price that delivers it, plus the equivalent markup so you can brief a supplier or a spreadsheet in either language.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter your unit cost (landed) and target margin.
  2. 2Adjust payment fee if they apply — leave them as they are if not.
  3. 3Press Calculate. Results update instantly, so you can change a number and compare.
  4. 4Read the recommended price and profit per unit first — those are the numbers that decide the call.
  5. 5Save the result to your account if you want to come back to it later.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is profit as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. A £10 item sold at £20 carries a 100% markup but a 50% margin.
Is the Product Pricing Calculator free to use?
Yes. The Product Pricing Calculator is free, unlimited and does not require an account. Creating a free account only adds favourites, saved results and history.
