What is the break-even calculator?
Break-even analysis answers one question: at what point does a product or a month stop losing money? Enter your fixed costs (software, rent, salaries, a campaign budget) plus the price and variable cost of a unit, and this tool returns the number of units and the revenue required before the first pound of profit appears. It is the fastest sanity check on a new product line or a paid campaign.
How to use it
- 1Enter your fixed costs, selling price per unit and variable cost per unit.
- 2Press Calculate. Results update instantly, so you can change a number and compare.
- 3Read the break-even units and break-even revenue first — those are the numbers that decide the call.
- 4Save the result to your account if you want to come back to it later.
Frequently asked questions
- What counts as a fixed cost?
- Anything that does not change with the number of units sold in the period: subscriptions, salaries, rent, agency retainers and one-off design work.
- Why does it say 0 units?
- If your variable cost is equal to or higher than your price, contribution is zero or negative and no volume will ever cover fixed costs. Raise price or lower unit cost.
- Is the Break-even Calculator free to use?
- Yes. The Break-even Calculator is free, unlimited and does not require an account. Creating a free account only adds favourites, saved results and history.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. Everything runs in your browser — your figures never leave the device unless you choose to save a result to your account.
